Project: Garden Sunroom
Architecture: TROPICA
Landscape Design: TROPICA
Status: Built
Design: 2022
Build: 2022
Location: Coconut Grove, Miami, FL
TEXT: This small extension to an existing Coconut Grove cottage is done in the least expensive way possible.
The historical house was expanded and renovated to fit an outdoor lifestyle, unlike many of the neighboring
bungalows, which have been demolished and wastefully rebuilt, in order to add livable area.
Our addition tips the scale -- now the larger component of the house is exterior space. Like our Screen
House, this extension is designed to mitigate against the minimum necessary environmental forces -- mosquitos
and rain. Clear acrylic panels provide water protection and the mosquito screen walls are installed
to give the entire structure the appearance of a shadow or a fog, using only the ancient tree canopy as its
shade. The space allows for natural ventilation and we have been happy to hear from the Owner that she
has been comfortably enjoying the space in all seasons.
